Celebration deserved a party and a holiday
Veronica Patchett
A GREAT grandmother from Kenilworth celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends last week.
Dulcie Dickenson marked her birthday at her home in Ashdene Gardens with a party and was surprised by her friends who presented her with a bird bath for her patio.
Mrs Dickenson also celebrated the occasion with a holiday in a hotel in Devon with her daughter Veronica Patchett, grandaughter Emma and her husband James, and her two young great grandchildren Freddie and Eleanor.
Her other daughter, Susan, who now lives in Canada, also came over to join in the celebration.
Mrs Patchett, who lives in Glasshouse Lane, said: “My sister Susan’s daughter, Diane, got married in Canada just before my mother’s birthday and came on her honeymoon to Iceland, then to England. Much to our delight, the honeymooners were able to join in the 100 birthday celebrations, and spent four days with us in Devon.”
The 100-year-old grew up in Wales, got married in 1940 and came to Coventry two days before the blitz. She said: “I vividly remember rushing into the bomb shelter night after night, surviving the bombing, and remember seeing the cathedral still smoking.”
She moved to Kenilworth to be closer to her daughter in 1998.
