Burglary rates in Warwickshire see fall since last year

THE number of burglaries reported in Warwickshire decreased by more than six per cent in December compared to the figures for the month in 2011.

The county’s force is attributing the reduction to a new operation - Citadel - which was introduced in September and includes the use of tactics such as a greater analysis of crime patterns and identifying known or suspected criminals and more police patrols in burglary ‘hotspots’.

Figures released last week show that there were 157 burglaries recorded across the county in December, compared to 168 in December 2011, while for the whole year, the number of burglaries recorded dropped from 1,647 in 2011 to 1,494 in 2012.

Reports of crimes associated with vehicles also dropped significantly in December from 323 to 294 and from 3,223 in 2011 overall to 2,888 in 2012.
