Ambitious plans to get Sam to Olympic slopes

A YOUNG skiing prodigy is calling for help to reach his dream of competing in the Olympics and bringing home a gold medal for his country.

Sam Allen has been racing on the slopes since the age of 12 and said he has been hooked ever since, attending academies and training camps all over the world t and even building a dry run in his garden.

The Kenilworth sportsman is now ranked third best for his age group in Slalom style in the country and has been noticed by the British Olympic team.

But the 20-year-old said he needs more expert training and financial backing to help get him make it with Team GB and into the winter Olympics where his dreams could come true.

Sam has just returned from spending several years at an American ski academy perfecting his skills as a racer and is now waiting to get back out on the slopes with a winter in France teaching and getting as much practice as he can.

But he said things are getting more and more difficult as he needs to be practising all year round only simply does not have the resources to fund it.

“Skiing is my life, I live for the winter when I can go out and compete and learn more,” he said.

“I want to go further with Alpine and with my racing but I am at such a disadvantage living in a country where there is no snow.

“I want to compete for Great Britain in the Olympics, that is my long term goal and I know I can do it with the right support. Short term I just to get on the team.

“I need to get out there and get noticed. The only problem is I cannot race in the summer and is it so expensive to get out and be able to practise intensely.”

He said he is currently spending as much time as possible at indoor slopes and even built an eight foot high dry run in the garden to make sure he is not missing out on vital practice with tricks and techniques over the summer months when he is unable to get to the snowy mountains.

Sam said he is looking for around £3,000 -or a regular sponsor - to help him along his journey and has now set up an Internet fund-raising page to start the ball rolling.
