Warwick District Council has announced its intention to move its headquarters to a new building in front of the Spa Centre in Leamington.

As part of efforts to cut costs, staff would move from the council’s offices at Riverside House in Milverton Hill to a much smaller building that would be sited on the land currently occupied by the Spa Centre car park in Newbold Terrace.

Officials at the council say the new offices will cost around £7 million - funded by the sale of Riverside House which, along with land at Court Street in Leamington’s Old Town, will be used for new housing.

They also say the new building would cost “significantly” less to run than Riverside House, on which the council spends £670,000 a year - with a repairs bill over the next five years estimated to be around £1 million.

Senior councillors will be asked to approve the plan next week and if they do, the final approval will be in February next year after more details have been put together.

If the proposals are given the go-ahead, building work will start during 2015, with staff moving into the new building in late 2016.
