Waitrose in new plant expansion plan

Waitrose could soon have stacks of plants for sale in its entrance if a planning application to transform the building’s entrance is successful.

The supermarket in Bertie Road has applied to Warwick District Council for a horticulture unit and trolley shelter to display flowers and plants to customers.

The display would be sited outside the main double doors to the building and include various level units displaying plants for sale.

Cllr Ann Blacklock (Lib Dem, Abbey) has raised reservations that the move could make the main entrance of the store more “cluttered” as people stop and look at items, which may cause problems for disabled shoppers and those with pushchairs or heavily-laden trollies.

Kenilworth Town Council has not objected to the application which will be discussed by planners over the next few weeks.

No formal objections have yet been raised in response to the application which was submitted in mid December last year for consideration.
