MHLC-06-09-13 Castle Sept31 Kenilworth Castle is having improvements to the Leicester's building, but building work has been delayed by 6 months.

Brand new viewing platforms to offer views once seen by Queen Elizabeth at the castle will not open until the summer after more setbacks.

The ambitious plan for Leicester’s Building was due for completion next month.

But the complexities of working within a 400-year-old castle ruin has meant more delay, said properties director Alex Page.

“This important building has been in a ruined state for over four hundred years, and our commitment to preserving and repairing the historic walls has added to the complexity of the build,” he said.

“Our design team used high level cameras to survey the building and develop our initial architectural plans, but due to the complexity of the building, our original timescale has increased with the final stages of installation taking longer than expected.

“We are committed to offering a unique experience for visitors to the castle and, when complete, the new viewing platforms will offer breath-taking views.”

Work to install the new viewing platforms has been undertaken by a team of specialists who have ensured the integrity and protection of the historic structure.

Throughout the construction of the viewing platforms experts have been able to survey previously inaccessible areas and have completed significant masonry restoration works.

This work has helped ensure the safeguarding of this important building for future generations.
