Bargain hunters have unearthed a trove of treasures - in the shape of coins at a public valuation day in Kenilworth.

A rare ‘mis-made’ two pound coin was brought into the valuation at St Francis of Assisi church hall in what shocked expert valuers.

The coin’s inner piece had been missed out in the printing process, leaving only the brass outer rim.

Hanson’s valuer Don Collins said he was also surprised to see a silver-coloured two pence coin that was accidentally made in the wrong metal.

The Queen Elizabeth II item was dated 1980 but struck in cupronickel - the blend of copper and nickel formerly used for ten and five pence pieces instead of bronze.

The coins will be taken to auction later this year.
