Vaisakhi celebrations come to Leamington

The most important festival in the Sikh calender was celebrated at Leamington’s Pump Room.

Dancers and storytellers brought the festival of Vaisakhi to life at the town centre building, with a free programme of live Indian performances and arts activities exploring the history of the occasion.

Vaisakhi is a harvest festival celebrated in northern India and also marks the start of the Sikh new year and commemorates the year Sikhism was established as a collective faith.

As well as enjoying Bollywood and Bhangra dancing, visitors to the Pump Room were able to listen to stories related to the festival and help to create a large textile artwork depicting the Sikh cultural heritage.
