Spa Centre land ‘most suitable’ for new HQ

Land in front of the Spa Centre in Leamington is the best place to site Warwick District Council’s new headquarters according to a report which has gone before senior members of the authority.

The council’s executive committee this week was advised by officers to confirm that the Spa Centre site will be the location of the new offices subject to the project successfully progressing from its design and assessment to its construction stage.

Of the plans council leader Cllr Andrew Mobbs (Con, Kenilworth Park Hill) has said: The move to new offices is a key project for the Council over the next couple of years.  

We are committed to continuing to deliver high quality services and we need to provide the right working environment for our staff so that we can make full use of new technologies to help us do that. This move gives us those opportunities and is further evidence of our dedication to on-going reductions in the cost to the public of delivering our services.”

The committee also considered a review by council officers, which deems other potential sites unsuitable.

These include the car parks in Bath Place, Court Street, Bedford Street, Chandos Street, Adelaide Road and Covent Garden, Spencer Yard, the Pump Room, Leamington town hall, Jephson Gardens, the Pump Room Gardens, Victoria Park and Christchurch Gardens.

The review weighs up the pros and cons of each site, citing the Spa Centre site’s ‘high profile location, close proximity to other public services and facilities.

‘Syngery’ with the Spa Cenre to ‘drive down its operational costs and boost its profile, footfall and use’ is another reason why the site has been chosen.

Potential future options for the sites listed will be considered through the development of a Leamington Town Centre Area Action Plan.

The council’s current Riverside House headquarters in Milverton Hill, will be sold to make way for houses.
