Somme service held at town war memorial

A small service of remembrance for those who died at the Batle of the Somme during the First World War was held at the town's war memorial on Saturday.

Organised by the Royal British Legion, the Mayor of Warwick, Mayor of Leamington, Chris White MP and the leader of Warwick District Council laid wreaths with French cornflowers mixed with the red poppies to remember the fallen of the French and British armies during the Battle of the Somme.

A whistle was sounded recalling the signal to “go over the top” and readings were given. After the Last Post was sounded the National Anthem was sung by those present.
