See wartime Kenilworth through tours

Leaflets for the war time walk are now available.

Leaflets for the war time walk are now available.

Step back into wartime Kenilworth and discover the stories behind the tributes with free guided history walks.

The walks are being run as part of the Warwickshire Heritage Open Days and to mark 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.

Led by town historians Susan Tall and Robin Leach, the activity will commemorate Kenilworth’s involvement with the conflict, looking at buildings, way of life and the stories of men who were sent off to fight - as well as the families left behind.

A similar walk for schools was rolled out last month to encourage families to walk a marked route this summer.

The updated tour is less tailored for children and will include refreshments thanks to volunteers at St Barnabas church.

The free tour runs on September 12 from 1.30pm, and September 13 at 2pm. It takes around two hours and starts and finishes at the war memorial in Abbey End.

Booking is essential as places are limited. Contact organisers on 856728 to book.
