Two Castles 10k Run winners Andrew Savery and Danielle Stewart are pictured yesterday (Sunday) with their trophies presented by Kenilworth Rotary Club president Richard Martin.
Andrew, of Leamington C&AC clocked a time of 33min 24sec to cross the line at Kenilworth Castle some 15 seconds ahead of second-placed Dom Blake.
He said: “This is the second time I have entered , the course is a little intimidating due to the overall rise in topography from Warwick .
“I set off at the front with a group but at 5k I got away on my own but they came back , at 7k I
felt I could go again and this time I got away clear to the finish .
“With the warm weather there was even more support around the route which always helps.
“I really enjoyed the event.”
Danielle, of Coventry Godiva Harriers, finished in 38min 16 sec.
She said: “I’m really pleased as I had all the winter off with no training due to a bike accident “This was the first time I’ve run the Two Castles but I wanted to take part in a local race so this became my ‘gold event’.
“It’s really hilly but I wish I had entered before because it has a well organised start and finish area and a great route, which I really enjoyed.”
Some 4,000 runners signed up for the race from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle with all places being snapped up within six hours on enrolment day.
The event, now in its ninth year, is organised Kenilworth Rotary Club, with the help of Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club and sponsored by Leamington law firm Blythe Liggins and raises about £100,000 for charities annually.
