A family fun fundraising event brought together some neighbours in a Leamington street for the first time on Saturday.

The Party in the Park, held at Crabtree Meadow off Leam Terrace, included a World Cup-themed Bake Off, a tug o’ war won by the women’s team for the second year running, a picture quiz, apface painting, family sports events in which medals were up for grabs, a very popular tombola, a barbecue and an auction.

The auction itself raised £1,000 alone and included lots ranging from a fish and chip supper from Pete’s Plaice sold for £8 to a week’s accommodation in France, which fetched £220.

About £1,500 was raised for the Myton Hospices.

Organiser Sarah Hickman said: “It’s all over for another year, but we’ve been left with some great memories and hopefully some new friends. It was amazing how many neighbours met for the first time – some of who have lived on the street for years.”
