A DRIVER had a lucky escape after walking away uninjured when his car was crushed by a falling tree outside Kenilworth.
The large oak tree fell onto the B2452 towards town around 1pm on Sunday after what is understood to have been caused by ongoing heavy rain and high winds.
A car was heading towards the town when it was hit by the falling tree - but only by the lighter top branches and not the full bulk and weight of the tree’s trunk.
Another car coming the other way is described to have had a “near miss” stopping just before the tree fell to avoid being right in the path of the falling oak.
Bob Hands, who was driving past at the time, said the driver was the only one in the car and other than being shaken up, he only suffered minor scratches to his face. But the car had to be completely written off.
“Another car coming the other way stopped just short, if not then someone would have almost certainly been killed,” he said.
