The newly refurbished organ at St Nicholas church has had its first blast for the crowds following months of work at a special service on Saturday.
Over 250 visitors came out to hear an address by Bishop John Stroyan before a performance by Alastair Sampson to show off the instrument’s new sound.
Mervyn Kimberley, lead fundraiser, described the performance as a “masterpiece of skill” to show off the organ.
He said: “Thanks to everyone who made any donation in money or in kind to our appeal. Your response has been magnificent and humbling and will ensure that everyone attending St Nicholas church can enjoy the music from the organ for many years to come.”
Over £100,000 was raised to make the huge restoration possible and a whiskey decanter donated by Prince Charles brought in £501 towards the funds.
