Kenilworth women in fight for rights

Kenilworth women have travelled to New York to help secure gender equality and increase women’s rights across the world.

Former Soroptimist presidents, Ann Barton and Andrea Kingston took part in the Annual Commission on the Status of Women to coincide with International Women’s day.

Joining over 6,000 delegates, the pair joined the international movement which can have a huge influence on world governments.

The annual discussion helps provide recommendations or ‘agreed conclusions’, on a gender-based issues.

Ann and Andrea, who have over 20 years’ experience as Soroptimists between them, said: “We have raised funds, lobbied and participated in service projects locally, nationally and internationally to improve the lives of women and girls. Now we have been to the UN and seen how our work influences government action around the world and understand the importance of feeding back our experiences at the local level to help achieve the aims of our organisation.”
