Police and learners have praised brand new ‘driving lessons’ for mobility scooters in hope of reducing issues on the town’s streets.

PCSO Craig Ricardo attended Sunday’s very first free lesson, and described the plan as excellent in getting people more confident.

The day included lessons in manoeuvring, reversing and manning controls.

The initiative - headed by Scoota Mart’s Martyn Horner - hopes to increase awareness and ability on the electric mobility vehicles.

He explained that many are not shown how to use scooters, or require help due to deteriorating health or sight.

And as a result, many can be dangers to themselves and others and often need help.
