The town’s community has given another surge of support for a football-mad teenager fighting rare bone cancer for the third time.

Kenilworth youngster Milan Patel (pictured) was last year surrounded by amazing friendship and well wishers when he found out the tumour on his spine had returned.

Friends organised parties and fundraisers to do their bit, which his mother, Gita, described as “amazing”.

And the supporters are at it again - this time by sporting specially made wristbands in their friend’s honour after the devastating news that he is battling the cancer for a third time.

The 14-year-old of Convent Close was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma after doctors discovered a tumour on his spine two years ago.

Despite successful treatment, the cancer returned just months later. But Milan faced the future head on with the message “I fought it once, I’ll do it again”.

The words of bravery were repeated thousands of times in an online campaign by the Wardens Club where Milan has played since the age of six.

And the rally has begun once again with long-standing Wardens coach Paul Calver encouraging everyone to buy a wristband before sending in a photo to be shared with Milan and his family.

“This is all about showing support for Milan who always manages a smile no matter what is going on in his life ,” he said.

“The wrist bands have been so sought after. It is a sign of Milan’s popularity that players he has played with or against have all supported him through this third battle with cancer.”

The £1 wristbands sporting the phrase ‘Support Milan’s Third Battle’ will also bring in funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust - a charity backed by the Kenilworth School pupil.

The bands are on sale at the club and the Tiltyard and the message has already been retweeted on social networking site Twitter over 4,000 times, including by Aston Villa’s Gary Gardener and former England player Peter Reid.
