KENILWORTH Carnival is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and a queen to lead it will be chosen this month.
The year’s events get under way with the Carnival Queen Choosing Night at the Priory Theatre in Rosemary Hill on Saturday February 18 from 7pm.
Entrants for the title of ‘Miss Kenilworth’ must be aged between 15 and 25 on Carnival Day, which takes place this year on Saturday July 7.
Carnival chairman Anne Brough said: “Last year’s event attracted a fantastic turnout, and the Carnival committee is hoping for even more entrants to come forward this year.”
Two runners-up will be crowned Maids of Honour and four Junior Attendants (two girls and two boys) will also be selected during the evening. Girls must be aged between eight and 11 years old, and boys between six and nine years old on Carnival Day.
Entrants must live in Kenilworth or one of its surrounding villages (Honiley, Ashow, Crackley, Leek Wootton, Hill Wootton, Beausale, Burton Green and Meer End), and must be available to participate in Carnival Day and at various other Kenilworth events held throughout the year.
‘Miss Kenilworth’ Carnival Queen will receive a prize of £100, the Maids of Honour will each receive £50 and the Junior Attendants will each receive £10. All winners will also receive a souvenir portrait photograph.
