Bus services and broken pavements discussed at Kenilworth town assembly

The first issue raised at the assembly, held on Thursday May 12, was the planned cancellation of the X16 bus service which travels from Coventry to Stratford via Kenilworth.

The X17, the other Stagecoach service which heads to Stratford, takes 90 minutes to get there as opposed to the X16 which takes 45 minutes.

Cllr Dave Shilton (Con, Park Hill) said: “The biggest problem we have is the usage of the bus service itself. They’re often pretty empty, and it’s a business Stagecoach are running.”

Cllr Alastair Bates (Con, St John’s) said: “Stagecoach would withdraw all services if they carried on in this vein. These new services will get less people.”

“People aren’t going to use public transport when a journey to Stratford takes 20 minutes in the car.”

The town council said they would write to the county council and Stagecoach to try and resolve the issue.

The state of Warwick Road was also a concern of one resident, who complained about inconsiderate parking and the state of the pavements, which he claimed were uneven and obstructed in parts.

Cllr Felicity Bunker (Con, Park Hill) said: “I think the police could do a little bit more to enforce parking on double yellow lines.

“I asked the county council if they could repair the uneven pavement around Costa two years ago but nothing has actually happened. It may be owned by Talisman.”

Cllr George Illingworth (Con, Abbey) said: “It isn’t just owned by Talisman - part of it belongs to the county council. People don’t realise only half of that pavement is public.”

The assembly decided the issues will be discussed at the next Community Forum, and its comments will also be used to help create the Kenilworth Neighbourhood Plan.
