County councillor John Whitehouse said the report will not be published for some weeks yet, despite previous assurances it would be published ‘imminently’ a month ago.

He added: “Just one part of the proposal needs to be looked at more detail.”

“But my position remains the same - I’m very keen to get this into the public domain.”

The study, sponsored jointly by Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council and undertaken by cycling charity Sustrans, aims to ‘explore options for provision of a safe, accessible, convenient and attractive cycle route through Abbey Fields.’

The provisional route starts from the end of the existing cycle route to the east of the Fields under Bridge Street, along the north side of the Finham Brook before crossing on a new bridge near the swimming pool.

It then continues west to meet Castle Road, where a new crossing would provide a safe link to the existing cycle path to Castle Farm Leisure Centre.
