Lillington flat will be boarded up and tenant banned from block after police win ASBO

MAGISTRATES have closed a Lillington flat using ASBO powers after police seized lethal weapons - and linked it with class A drugs activity and an increase in disturbance and disorder.
Now the flat in Eden Court will be boarded up with metal panels, and its tenant has been banned from entering the high-rise block in Mason Avenue.
The occupant, whom police have not named, appeared at Nuneaton Magistrates Court today (Wednesday October 17) after officers served a notice of closure of the address on October 4.
The notice was issued after a search warrant was executed at the property and officers seized weapons including a crossbow, machete, knives and a knuckle duster.
Police say class A drugs activity as well as an increase in anti-social behaviour, noise disturbances, and disorder in the area was believed to emanate from or be connected to the address .
Following the granting of the notice, the property will be boarded up with metal panels to help ensure it remains secure and the occupant cannot return.
Chief Inspector Colin Reynolds said: “Warwickshire Police, together with partners, have taken strong enforcement action to ensure the majority of law-abiding local residents can enjoy their homes without being disturbed by anti-social behaviour and drugs activity.
“We have been supported in that action by the courts, who have seen fit to impose a closure order on the premises for a period of three months.
“Warwickshire Police are determined to ensure neighbourhoods are a safe place to live and work. Anybody involved in similar behaviour can be assured that positive action will be taken to ensure the behaviour stops. We will continue to work together with our partners and take any action necessary to ensure this happens.”
Jameel Malik, head of housing and property services at Warwick District Council, which owns the flats, added: “The granting of this order will come as a great relief to the neighbours of this individual who have suffered considerable anti-social behaviour. This has been an excellent piece of joint working with Warwickshire Police.”
