Money should be spent on play area
I couldn’t help but catch the headlines of last week’s Kenilworth Weekly News. We feel disappointed that we have to raise a petition in order to attempt to have our children’s play area in Abbey Fields repaired and made safe, to enable our youngsters to play there.
Then on page six, we read that the council is happy to spend thousands of pounds purchasing the Olympic torch as a memento for the carriers in Warwickshire.
We have no doubt that the individuals who have been selected to carry the torch have worked hard for the community, however we’re sure they would rather the funds were spent on the community rather than on a keepsake!
Question: not all, but how many of the touches purchased with our council tax funding, will end up on eBay?
If we were carrying one of the torches, we would struggle but find the money to purchase the torch as a memento for ourselves. Not expect or accept the council buying it on our behalf, when funds are desperately needed for the safety of the play areas in our parks.
Please publish a list of the councillors who supported this expenditure so we can ensure that we don’t vote for them in future. - Richard Spencer, Rounds Hill, Kenilworth; Rosemary and Peter Spencer,Berkeley Road, Kenilworth; Lauren Edmunds, Caesar Road, Kenilworth; George, Doug and Jane Kempton, Hermitage Way, Kenilworth.
