Important that canals are maintained

Since Britain’s canal network has been part of our English Heritage even though it is not used for carrying cargo through towns and cities any more it still has function and plays a important role in our history.

Nowadays although the canals are used mainly for leisure there are also walks by the canals which have led more people to take up walking and what a pleasure when you take a walk to see bright coloured barges going up and down the canal, many people are taking up holidaying in Britain on the waterways and such a pleasure to see brightly lit boats parked up the side of the canal walks, not forgetting to mention the canal locks up by Hatton.

It would be such a shame if the canals were not kept maintained after all and perhaps making it a charitable institution would not be a bad thing, perhaps fundraising would also be worthy of consideration. - Pam Thomas, via email.
