HS2 raises significant security concerns
The debate on High Speed Rail goes on, and I continue to wonder if security is being fully considered by relevant planners. A group of MPs think that only the proposed High Speed Rail project could meet the growing national demands for transport by train, but local action groups are critical of the underlying assessments.
Burton Green could be greatly affected, and many residents in Westwood Ward, which borders Burton Green, are concerned about such a major upheaval so nearby.
I agree with them, especially about the possible dangers of technical/mechanical failure, vandalism and even terrorist attack. We cannot simply ignore the recent Chinese rail disaster; 9/11; the Omagh bombing; the London Underground and Madrid train bombings, etc.
Obviously, we cannot expect the security authorities to comment publicly in detail. but surely we can ask whether, for example, bridges along the proposed line will receive high fences to prevent objects being thrown onto the track? At the speeds proposed, there could be an utter disaster. - Cllr. David Skinner, Coventry City Council
