A court notice has been served to Gypsies and travellers after they refused to leave Newbold Comyn within a 24 hour warning period.

Around eight families moved onto the public car park outside the Newbold Comyn Arms on Wednesday, in what was described by council officers as an unauthorised gypsy and traveller site.

The next day, notices to leave within 24 hours were served to families after ongoing complaints of harassment and intimidation by business owners and park users.

But as the car park site was still occupied over the weekend, legal action has been taken and a court date has been issued to all those who remain.

A Warwick District Council spokesperson said on Monday: “With reference to the group of Travellers at the car park for the pub and golf course at Newbold Comyn.

“They have been served with the court paperwork this morning and the court hearing is on Monday 11 April.”
