Former Stratford High School pupil Lee Sterrey, who works as a business unit executive at IBM, was requested to meet - through Facetime - around 80 children at Justin Elementary School in Texas, USA, such was the popularity of her book with the youngsters.

She said: “They asked great questions, such as where I got my inspiration from and why I named the dormouse ‘Doyley’. I also gave them a sneak peak at some pictures of the next book, The Escaped Pig, which is due out in November.”

One of Lee’s friends who lives in Texas showed the book to his wife, who is a teacher at the school and was so impressed that she took it to show the children.

The story, which is written in rhyme, is based on a carpenter mouse who makes round doors for mouse holes, but struggles when he is asked to make a door in a different shape. It includes illustrations by Leamington artist Nicola Wyldbore-Smith.
