A Kenilworth church is all set for the future after it was officially '˜rededicated' in a special ceremony last weekend.

Around 300 people attended the ceremony at St John’s Church in Warwick Road held on Sunday March 26, which was led by Bishop of Coventry Dr Christopher Cocksworth.

The ceremony followed a refurbishment of the church costing more than £300,000, and means the building is officially a place of worship in the eyes of God.

The vicar at St John’s, Rev Andrew Attwood, felt the time and money needed to complete the work was ‘absolutely’ worth it.

He added: “It’s been a lot of work and investment, and there’s been a lot of sacrifices made to get to this point.

“There were inevitable headaches over that time, but now that we’re back all sorts of possibilities are emerging.”

The project was first mooted in 2013, and building work eventually started in January 2016.

The church’s interior features a new tiled floor, new chairs (which can be moved) replacing the fixed pews, underfloor heating, an automatic front door and a modern lighting and sound system.

The church grounds also have a new ‘garden of remembrance’, where families can scatter the ashes of deceased loved ones if they wish.

The changes will allow the church building to be more flexible for the community, giving it the ability to host different events as well as being a place of worship.

Rev Attwood said two jazz concerts in May and September have already been lined up for the church, with the latter being part of this year’s Kenilworth Arts Festival.
