High Court ruling means HS2 “to continue”

The High Court this week dismissed a Judicial Review brought by HS2 Action Alliance Ltd and a London council.

The group claimed that the Government was required to carry out adequate safeguarding of the proposed route under European guidelines - and that they had failed to do so.

Transport Minister Robert Goodwill said that the case for the high speed route between London and Birmingham will now continue as planned.

“I invite interested groups to work with us through the Parliamentary process on making HS2 the very best it can be, and not to waste money on costly and fruitless court cases,” he said.

Construction for the railway - which will pass through Balsall Common - is expected to begin in 2017 if it the bill is passed by MPs over the coming years.

Campaigners continue to fight the billion-pound train project from going ahead.
