A BALSALL Common family is looking back to farming generations gone by with the opening of one of the UK’s biggest local produce shops.

The Oakes family has finally made a 12 year dream come true by opening the brand new business in the village and continuing a successful 90 years of family farming heritage.

From a humble ‘honesty box’ at the edge of the farm, Gary Oakes and his wife Jayne have created the outlet for local producers to promote their goods and are now one of the biggest of its kind in the country.

The couple’s four children are all involved in the shop and cafe and the family source locally grown ingredients and are committed to providing the very best from the area.

Speaking about the business, which now sells over 6,000 eggs across the community, Gary said: “My aim is to support local rural businesses by giving them an opportunity to promote their produce. “Even our coffee is sourced from a Balsall Common company.’

They are now looking forward to a successful future and even to open a children’s educational centre on the site.
