Early bird tickets are already available for the four-day celebration of all things folk, which will see leading international performers provide entertainment in the town from July 24 to 27.

Acoustic guitarist and world famous songwriter Richard Thompson, chosen by Rolling Stone for the aforementioned accolade, is by far not the only big name to be playing at the festival, with BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomimees Breabach and John Tams - who wrote the music for the National Theatre’s War Horse - also headlining.

Other leading acts confirmed for the line-up include Habadekuk from Denmark, Canadian band Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys and Warwickshire musician and BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Will Pound.

As well as concerts, the packed programme of more than 130 events includes ceilidhs, workshops, a crafts and music fair and the return of the family Panic Circus, as well as colourful dance displays, pub music sessions and open air concerts in the town centre.

In January, festival organisers held a public vote to decide who should open the festival’s Saturday night concert - and the winner was folk singer and songwriter Kim Lowings and the Stourbridge-based The Greenwood, who play a mix of contemporary, original and traditional folk song.

Festival director Dick Dixon said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 35th year. Each year the festival goes from strength to strength.
