Tim Dart from Bishop’s Tachbrook and Derek Pearce, of Cheltenham, decided to mark turning 30 together by creating a ‘10:10:10’ challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care - and now both have managed to do it in a total running time of under ten hours.

Tim, who works for npower, said he is happy to put his trainers away for a little while after completing the final run - the Abbey Dash in Leeds - but he is planning on entering several events next year.

He said: “After the first race, I realised that I could manage sub-nine hours if I put in the effort - and I managed to do it.

“We decided to run the last race together for the entire 10k, so it was great to share the finishing moment with each other. We’ve been friends nearly 20 years.”

The pair have received sponsorship and support from npower, Derek’s employer Zeta Safe and Tim’s wife’s employer Foy Wealth. They need to raise another £100 to reach their target. To sponsor them, visit www.justgiving.com/del-tim-challenge
