The incident happened in the small village of Pinley Green between Claverdon and Shrewley on Wednesday last week.

Jo Mummery-Smith, 30, who lives in the village with her partner Rowly, was worried when her three-year-old black and white rescue cat Eric came home injured.

She said: “Eric dragged himself home and we took him to the vets. They found a pellet inside him. It had gone in by his hip. He had to have an operation to have it removed. He is OK now and there is no lasting damage.

“I don’t know who did this but I don’t want it to happen to other people.

“The vets were not aware of any other similar incidents in the area. I have reported it to the police.”
