Crime in south Warwickshire has fallen, police figures show

Police have reported a drop of more than 700 crimes recorded in south Warwickshire during the past year compared to the previous year.

Figures released by Warwickshire Police show that there have been 701 fewer crimes recorded in the year running up to April 2014, with 12,335 recorded in the 2012-2013 period compared to 11,643 recorded in the 2013-14 period.

Robbery was shown to have dropped by 11 incidents (95 to 84), domestic burglary went down by 48 (728 to 679), anti-social behaviour went down by 479 reports (8,179 to 7,700) and violence against the person dropped by 35 (1091 to 1056).

But there were 24 more casualties of road collisions recorded (146 compared to 122) in 39 more collisions (up from 101 to 140).

The figures show that 87.1 per cent of people surveyed in south Warwickshire said they were happy with the service they received from the police, compared to 84.7 per cent last year.

In Warwickshire as a whole, the force’s figures show that there were 1,185 fewer crimes recorded in 2013-14 compared to the previous year, with reports of robbery down by 26, burglary by 96 and anti-social behaviour by 243.

The figures show that have been 17 more incidents of violence against the person reported and 45 more casualties of road collisions, although the force points out that the number of collisions across the county went up by 62, from 241 to 303.

The force says 85.1 per cent of people surveyed across the county said they happy with the service they received, compared with 83.1 per cent last year.

Chief Constable Andy Parker said: “This has been another good year which has seen a reduction in crime and fewer victims.

“We will continue to target those offenders who are causing the most harm and deploy resources in areas of high risk. This strategy has already proved effective and will build upon our excellent performance over the past few years.”

Ron Ball, Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, congratulated the county’s police force. He said: “I’d like to say both congratulations and thank you to all of you for making last year into the success that it was.

“Improving on 2012-13 was a challenge and you managed to achieve that. I have just been working through community safety bids from our partners, who deserve a great deal of credit too.

“Keeping reductions going in future years is going to be a real challenge, but then I remember saying that last year.”
