Children all set for Warwick's pancake day races

The annual tradition of pancake racing will be returning to Warwick later this month.

On Shrove Tuesday, which is two weeks today, local children from primary schools will be getting ready to take part in the annual pancake races.

The event, which is organised by Warwick Rotary Club, will see the children from the primary school keeping the tradition of pancake racing alive in the Market Place.

This year teams from six schools will be taking part and Westgate School, who won last year, will be racing to keep hold of their trophies.

On February 28, the mayor of Warwick, Christine Cross, will set off the children at 1.30pm.

Adults are also being invited to take part in a pancake race and local businesses have already started signing up.

Adults wanting to take part will need a team of four and will need to pay £10.

The adults’ race will take place at 1pm and prizes will include Easter eggs.

This year’s event is supported by Tesco, who are providing the prize eggs and pancakes.

The Globe will also be supplying hot pancakes and Thomas Lloyd will be brewing coffee in the Market Place.

A trophy will be awarded to each winning team and cream eggs will be given out to the school children.

Jackie Crampton, Rotary club organiser, said: “This is a nice way to keep a tradition alive. Warwick Rotarians are out in force to marshall the event and this is one of the events we arrange for the local community.”
