Kenilworth’s pound will soon have a newly laid stone floor thanks to a £2,500 grant from the community forum.

Friends of the Pound hope to get contractors in to lay groundworks over the next few months before benches, history boards and landscaping can go in.

Pat Cain, chair of the Civic Society which is behind the drive to reopen the garden for community use, said the stones would be reclaimed and “perfect” for the historic feel of the area.

“This is a very important project and we have a lot going on, so we are delighted to have been given this fund,” she said,

The space will also have benches, history boards and markings to show where the former air raid warden posts stood.

Kenilworth Town council has lent support to the bid.

A fundraiser will be held at the Talisman Theatre on July 12 when historians will show footage of Kenilworth carnivals from 1947 and 1948 in hope of raising £1,000 to put towards the project.

Tickets are £7 from the theatre.
