Film lovers and carnival queens helped historians raise £1,111 to restore the High Street pound.

A screening of carnival footage from the 1940s was a sell out as families and stars of the films came out to relive their memories.

Organised by town historians Peter James and Graham Gould with the Talisman Theatre, all money raised will be spent on transforming the currently unused space into a community memorial garden.

Work is due to begin later in the summer to lay new paving slabs.
