Leamington library is among libraries in the county collecting the material, which will be gathered together in a booklet that will be available to borrow at Warwickshire libraries, while a commemorative display will also be exhibited in September.

Those who have material are being asked to book an appointment to scan it at the library on either Wednesday May 14 or Saturday June 6. Further sessions may become available at a later date.

Senior librarian Louise Essex said: “We are expecting lots of people to come forward with fascinating stories to tell about their relations. We are interested in those who fought and also those who stayed behind; the men in protected industries and the women who looked after their families or those who worked on the land or in factories.”
