Cadets to reach new heights with a town base

AIR Cadets are coming to Kenilworth after approval was given for a brand new training base on the school field on Leyes Lane.

The application for a new 180 square feet base was approved by planners on Warwick District Council and work will go ahead in the New Year to help numbers grow.

The development by the West Midlands Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ association will cost around £340,000 and see the current closest unit in Balsall Common’s school moved into the town.

Cadets will use the facility to train at evenings and weekends and it is hoped the school can make use of the unit during the day.

Kevin Andrews, head of estates for the association, said they are delighted to be offer an alternative site to grow their presence in Kenilworth.

The group currently has around 40 members, including from Kenilworth, and is heavily involved with activity in the town including the Remembrance Day parade.

The move has been welcomed as great news to bring the group closer to the town and help grow numbers.
