Food and fun on the menu for first Foodie Fortnight launch

FOOD lovers are gearing up for the event of the year with the launch of the very first Foodie Fortnight ready to kick off with a bang on Sunday.

The two-week long event is all about promoting eateries in the town and showing off everything they have to offer.

Kenilworth Town Centre Partnership has teamed up with Warwick District Council to make it all happen and after months of planning, the launch weekend is finally here. Sunday’s launch will run from 12 to 3pm at Abbey Fields with appearances from Kenny Bear, stalls and entertainment. And over the next two weeks the town will play host to a beer festival, tasting sessions, live bands, a ‘home grown’ market and cooking demonstrations. Bars, cafes and restaurants will also be offering special menus and offers to help showcase what Kenilworth has to offer.

Speaking about the launch, Zoe Court, town centre manager and organiser, said she could not wait for it all to get going after months of planning.

“We are so excited, it is going to be really, really special for Kenilworth,” she said. “The town has so much to offer and we need to make sure everyone knows that and comes here to eat so we can show off all the amazing places we have. There is just so much to do here and so many great places to eat, people want to visit and we need to promote and support that.”

She explained that if it is successful, it is hoped to roll out the fortnight as a permanent fixture in the town’s calendar. And everyone is being urged to come out and support their very first go. Leaflets and programmes are in the town library, in participating shops and businesses. Organisers will also be out and about in the town centre over the next fortnight to let everyone know exactly what is on offer.

Town mayor, Cllr George Illingworth, has urged all councillors to get out and support the event by making the most of food outlets near them to help build the success of the event.

Anyone who eats in a restaurant or bar during the event is encouraged to share their experiences and rate their meal at www.facebook.com/kenilworthfoodiefortnight and you can follow the group on Twitter at #kenilworthfoodiefortnight for regular updates and information over the next two weeks.
