Burton Green could move down the road to protect from HS2

Burton Green could be ‘rebuilt’ just metres away in the latest attempt to save the community from destruction by HS2.
Villagers are desperately seeking a way to stop the high speed rail tracks “ripping a hole” through their community after accepting there is little they can do to stop the line being built though their gardens and streets.
And Stop HS2 campaigner, Archie Taylor, said relocation for some of the three houses and the village hall all set for demolition - as well as for some of the 61 homes which fall within 120 metres of the proposed track - could be the key.
“Our community will be destroyed if we do not pull together to save it and effectively moving the village could be the ideal solution,” he said.
“Luckily, we are a special case for housing development partly because of HS2. There are people willing to sell us land.”
He explained that the village has ‘category 2’ status, potentially earmarking it for development in the surrounding green belt land if support is given in Warwick District Council’s local plan which is in the process of being set.
The parish council, of which he is also chair, can designate sites to be considered and there are “several” in the running for the ‘community saving’ project.
