WOOLWORTH'S, in central Kenilworth, remains closed to the public following a fire that spread through the Talisman Square store last week.
A spokesperson for the chain has said the store’s safety is still being assessed and it will only open once it is 100 per cent safe for staff and customers.
The fire, which started at the Talisman Square entrance, happened last Tuesday night.
I
t broke out just after 10pm, causing the first floor of the store to become severely smoke logged.
Warwick Road had to be closed off as a result and the store was also closed on Wednesday while fire crews assessed the damage and made the premises safe.
Signs of the fire were obvious on Wednesday morning with blackened windows and the strong smell of smoke in the air. The majority of damage appears to be at the Talisman Square entrance but visible signs of damage could also be seen from the Warwick Road side of the store.
Francesca Colling of Woolworths said: “The emergency services were called and the fire quickly brought under control. There were no injuries resulting from the fire. The store is currently closed due to damage and the company is working closely with the police and the fire brigade to establish the cause of the fire.”
It is not yet know when the store will re-open.
