A man has been convicted of stealing from Somerfield Stores in Kenilworth.
The man accompanied by a woman entered Somerfield Stores in Kenilworth on February 27 last year and stole selected items including a bottle of Whiskey.

They made off from the store without paying.

A police officer viewed the store’s internal CC
TV system and recognised the male offender.

As a result the man was arrested and as enquires continued the woman was arrested for theft and interviewed.

The woman received a police caution. The man however was charged to court and was found guilty of theft and ordered to pay Somerfield £24 compensation, a fine of £75 and costs of £80.

Pc Michael Morland said: “On the officer viewing Somerfield’s CCTV for a completely separate offence he came across this theft that had been captured on the CCTV system.

“The CCTV clearly showed the male and the female selecting items from the shelves including alcohol.

“The pair were seen to leave the store without offering payment.

“Pc Blackwell from the Kenilworth Safer Neighbour-hood Team recognised the offender which lead to the arrest of him shortly followed by the woman.

“This offence actually occurred on February 27, 2007 at 2.54pm. However it was only discovered later as it was stored on their system.

“The male offender was convicted at the end of April.”

Pc Morland added that couple were heroin users and committed the offences to feed their addictions.

“The pair were given the opportunity to speak to a drugs worker and to seek help to overcome their addiction.”
