A Kenilworth takeaway could be forced to reduce trading hours and even employ a bouncer in a bid to stop rowdy behaviour late at night.
The Kebab House, formerly known as Queens Road Fish Bar, on the corner of Warwick Road and Queens Road is to face a hearing as part of a review called for by the police.

Reports of noise from nearby residents and several incidents of anti-social behaviour have prompted the police to call for the review.

The premises is currently licensed to sell late night refreshment from Monday to Sunday, 11pm to 1.30pm.

But this is in danger of being revoked.

CCTV evidence collected by the police will be shown during the hearing along with a statement with their review application.

The footage shows the owner serving food after the permitted times.

Complaints have also been made by members of the public of noise and nuisance occurring near to the premises.

Warwick District Council has a letter of complaint from August 2007 from a member of the public complaining of customers being served hot food out of hours and residents on Queens Road have also complained on this issue.

A number of other incidents have also been reported to the police.

In October 2008 a customer, reported to be 'heavily intoxicated', was outside the premises disturbing customers by acting 'anti-socially and continually re-entering the shop'.

In June 2009 around 10 youths refused to leave the shop. When they eventually did leave they then gathered outside and were 'verbally abusive to members of the public nearby'.

There was also an allegation that one of the members of staff at the premises physically assaulted a customer.

In July 2009 there were a few reports - the first involved around five youths causing trouble described as 'disorderly' and causing a general nuisance to customers.

In another incident that same month more youths were reported causing trouble and a few days later there was an assault.

Youths have also been reported to have thrown eggs into the shop from outside at customers on one occasion.

The application for review will relate to the prevention of crime and disorder and the prevention of public nuisance.

Police want to see Mr Basra's licence revoked so that he can only open until 11pm. But if the licensing committee decides not to do this then the police are requesting that the licensable hours should be reduced, a door supervisor be employed to deal with nuisance behaviour, or both.

The Weekly News contacted the owner Mr Inderjit Singh Basra at the shop and also on his mobile phone. Mr Basra said he would call back, but the newsdesk was still waiting for his response at the time of going to print.

The hearing before the licensing panel will take place on Thursday, November 12 at the Town Hall in Leamington.
