No more lost balls at the challenging fourth hole

The twin challenges of climate change and health and safety rules have been turned to positive effect by green staff and members at Kenilworth Golf Club.
New landscaping, following the heavy rains of 2007, has left good drainage ditches now taking the water away and as a result the course has been open every day this year.
Health and Safety requirements dictated that the 4th hole, along Crewe Lane, changed to a challenging par three set into a wooded hillside and pointing slightly away from the road.
As a result there are no more lost balls for the players or worries about the windscreens of passing motorists.
The 16th hole, along Dalehouse Lane, also received safety modifications, but not to the same extent.
The club will exhibit at the Kenilworth Chamber Exhibition at the De Montford Hotel in September and an open day is also planned for September 21 to coincide with the Ryder Cup.
This year, the club’s head professional Steve Yates and his team will offer summer coaching for local schoolchildren, with free Taster Sessions on July 12 and 19.
