It does appear that despite the uproar from residents over our temporary 'visitors' the other week, there are still some very easy mistakes being made.
You will have no doubt already read the headline and are fully clued up on what this is all about.

After the week of tensions, upset and more sharing the town with the visitors, one of the gates to Abbey Fields was left open this week. Is this not
a welcome invitation to our ancient site?

Of course if it was locked, where’s there’s a will and all that...I am sure bolt cutters will do the job. But let’s at least try and make it a challenge for people to unlawfully set up camp on the fields.

If one gate is left open, then the invitation is there and it will be accepted. The horse fair is back in September and this will be a test for the town and Warwick District Council.

Town councillors are ready, as are residents, as a repeat of the other week’s event will not be tolerated according to the letters we’ve been getting.

This is an issue that refuses to go away as so many have been affected. I had a call this week from a man on Rouncil Lane who came back after a holiday to find his Mini Cooper S taken, using the keys, as well as laptops and TVs. The car has yet to be recovered.

And whilst we are NOT pinning the blame on the travellers as there is certainly no evidence to suggest this, many residents believe it is far too much of a coincidence.

As September draws nearer, we await the arrival of the next horse fair. The town will be holding its breath and hoping for a quiet, hassle free event. Let’s hope that’s just what we get.

As ever, I welcome your comments. Lucia Clifford
