A bridge over Coventry Road as part of the Sustrans Connect2 scheme could "signal the approach to a delightful town."
That is the view of resident Noelle Mace of Dudley Road in Kenilworth.
The scheme has met with objection over the last few weeks due to a lack of public consultation and many are worried that the proposed bridge over Coventry Road will be rushed t
o completion without the usual planning channels being followed.
But Mrs Mace, who moved the area with her husband 18 months ago, feels the project is a positive step for the town.
She said: "The Weekly News has seen a wide range of articles and letters over the proposed extension to the greenway and debates as to whether a bridge or a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists should facilitate the crossing of a very busy road.
"Last week we took a walk to explore the area around the proposed bridge, and saw first hand the work in progress. The work is progressing well and the majority of the trees appear to be seedlings within the original railway trackbed. I think a bridge will be a great benefit for all.
"For walkers and cyclists any possibility of a road accident will be eliminated, for cars and lorries there will be no stopping or slowing down necessary, which would otherwise increase fuel consumption and for local residents there will be less noise and fuel pollution, which would otherwise arise as vehicles stop and start.
"Finally with an inspiring design, the bridge would signal the approach to a delightful town, and could be used to hang banners advertising events such as those arranged by the Lions and Round Table.
"We are looking forward to using the new track and hopefully will be able to cycle and walk across the new bridge."
Following calls for more consultation and information, a special Connect2 briefing is to be held for members of the town council on February 12.
Kenilworth town councillors called for more information last week from the regular Connect2 meetings.
Coun Felicity Bunker suggested that a presentation be organised, which will take the form of a public meeting.
Councillors have also asked for a copy of the minutes from every Connect2 meeting held for the area's scheme.
They also want to see more publicity given to proposals, particularly on the bridge, and that another briefing be requested from Warwickshire County Council and partners regarding the progress of the programme.
The calls come after many councillors and residents raised concerns over the plans and the lack of consultation.
