The 1st Kenilworth Guides celebrated 90 years of guiding in the town with a weekend of activity at Kenilworth Methodist Church.
Twenty five youngsters spent 24 hours at the church accompanied by leaders Fi Pethick, Gill Mills and Carol Mallorie with other parent helpers.

The girls enjoyed a range of activities looking back at guiding in the past, gaining their traditions of guiding badges in the process.

On Saturday previous members and leaders of 1st Kenilworth were invited to share an evening's entertainment based on the history of the company.

Former Guides spoke of their experiences, including one who was a Guide in the 1930s.

She recalled her friend's need to curl her hair before venturing out of the house to meetings.

Others spoke of the lack of 'health and safety' culture during Guide camps in the 50s and 60s, including travelling to camp in furniture vans and on lorries with open backs.

Former Guide leader June Sanday arranged for current members of the company to wear uniforms from throughout the history of Guiding, dating back to 1909 when the movement started.

The evening was interspersed with songs from nearly a century of Guiding with old favourites such as Ging Gang Gooli and Riding Along On The Crest Of A Wave.

Guide Katie, 11, said: "It was cool. The older Guides were all very friendly and we had a great time."

Guide Kirsty, also 11, added: "It was interesting to hear how the Trefoil Guild described how Guides was in their day."

The celebrations concluded on the Sunday morning when the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies and Rainbows joined in a packed celebratory service, led by another former Guide leader, Christine Flood.

Guide leader Mrs Pethick said: "It was a wonderful weekend.

"I think we all learnt something more about Guides, but one of the main themes that kept being repeated was the fun Guides have – whatever their age.

"We hope our current Guides will have similarly great memories to share with those that come after them."
