Residents are to get a say on the design and colour of a major bridge planned for Coventry Road in Kenilworth.
A public consultation is to be held in October to determine the finer details of the bridge, which forms part of the Sustrans Connect2 scheme, before the proposals officially go to council planners.

This week the scheme took another step forward
when a new footbridge was craned in and installed on Forge Road in the town.

Chairman of Kenilworth's Connect2 scheme, Cllr John Whitehouse, said: "The new bridge provides an important link in the Connect2 Kenilworth scheme.

"It connects the town section of the route - ending in Forge Road - with the new section to be constructed alongside Kenilworth Common and linking round via the disused railway track to the new bridge to be built over the Coventry Road.

"It replaces the previous pedestrian-only bridge over the Finham Brook, and is wide enough for both pedestrians and cyclists to use in safety."

The new bridge comes ahead of the plans for the public consultation to discuss the options for the major bridge over Coventry Road.

Proposals for the bridge have raised mixed feelings and members of Connect2 are keen that residents get a say in the design and colour of the planned structure.

Three bridge designs and three colour options are being put forward.

Residents will be able to have their say at the public exhibition which runs from October 1 to 3 at the library, in the downstairs room at the back. Opening times will be:

  • October 1 from 12pm to 7pm

  • October 2 from 12pm to 5pm and October 3 from 9am to 1pm.

Letters are to be sent out to residents within the area of the new bridge and also to a number of other interested parties such as the town council and the Crackley residents association.

Details are also available on the Connect2 Kenilworth web site www.connect2kenilworth.org.uk.

Cllr Whitehouse added: "We also have approval from Discovery Properties to put up exhibition material in one of the empty shop premises in Talisman Square, both before the library exhibition and continuing after.

"This informal public consultation will run through October 16. The Steering Group will meet on October 21 to review consultation feedback and to select final bridge design and colour to go forward for formal planning approval."
