KENILWORTH Lions' Grand Show, which took place last Saturday, has been hailed a huge success.
The free annual event in Abbey Fields, attracted hundreds of people and helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Andy Cartwright, chairman of the Grand Show committee, said: "As we do not charge an entrance fee it is impossible to give an accurate figure of attendance, but from observation it was generally thought to be one of the best attended and busiest shows for a number of years.

"The whole event had a friendly family atmosphere and had a variety of stalls and sideshows to entertain the crowds including old favourites, manned by the Lions, such as the coconut shy, hammer slammer, score a goal and golf."

The Sealed Knot, an educational charity, also attended the event and set up a camp to bring the social history of the period of the Civil War to life.

But the biggest event of all was the Lions' balloon race which gave people the opportunity to win balloon rides, meals and vouchers to use in the town.

Mick Dillon, member of the Lions, said: "I helped man the coconut shy and it never stopped all day.

"The pig roast provided by the Lions was also very popular.

"It is too early yet to say how much was raised by the Lions and for the various charities represented, but from talking to the charity stall holders we all agree the figure will be somewhere in the thousands.

"We were all very pleased with the attendance and generosity of the people of Kenilworth and would like to thank all those who took part and attended the show because they helped us make it a huge success."
